Plantain+Kitchen+Market+Stall

2019

Following a year of researching menus and another six weeks preperation for launch, Plantain Kitchen was born with its first market stall at Hackney Bohemia. Toby and Sika serve food from 11am - 11pm making a profit on the first day.

2020 PK Expands

January
Plantain Kitchen sets up at North Cross Road Market, East Dulwich and sign a deal with Deliveroo operating within two miles of the Surrey Quays area gaining a 4.7 out of 5 rating.

April
As the UK goes into lockdown, PK adapts to becoming an online-only business selling via Deliveroo and Instagram. To cheer customers up they start giving customers free Easter Eggs and surprise treats with their ordered.

Toby and Sika also start providing meals to NHS staff who are fighting COVID-19 on the frontline.

pop-ups, vegan launches and awards

June
PK adds a vegan chicken bowl to the menu, using ‘chicken’ supplied by THIS.

PK launches their first ever pop up event taking over the kitchen at Grounds and Grapes for two nights, selling out well in advance.

Plantain Kitchen nominated for the best newcomer award on Deliveroo

2021 new stores and diy kits

February
PKDIYKITS are launched allowing customers across the UK to cook their own PK meals at home during lockdown. Packages available included chicken, suya prawn and a vegan option selling out within days of launch. Stay tuned for more PK Kits launching in late-2021.

The lease is signed for the first PK store at Peckham Levels

May 2021: PK Peckham Levels Launches

May 20th official became ‘PK Day’ for Plantain Kitchen as Plantain Kitchen, Peckham Levels opened its doors.

“there is a strong connection between Peckham and Plantain Kitchen. To be in a place where West African culture is so predominant was absolutely the key for us. At Peckham Levels we are able to provide West African cuisine to a diverse range of people who haven’t experienced it in this way before.” founder Toby
